One Elephant Went Out to Play

(Can either be acted out with the whole body, one hand in front as the trunk and other behind as tail, lumbering along as an elephant — or as a fingerplay, with one hand as the spider web and the other using the fingers as the elephants)

One elephant went out to play
On a spider’s web one day.
He had such enormous fun
That he called for another elephant to come.

Two elephants went out to play
On a spider’s web one day.
They had such enormous fun
That they called for another elephant to come.

Three elephants...
Four elephants...
Five elephants...

All the elephants went out to play
On a spider’s web one day.
They had such enormous fun
But there were no more elephants left to come.

Another version builds on this verse:

One little elephant balancing
Step by step on a piece of string.
He thought it was such an amusing stunt,
That he called in another little elephant!
