LANGUAGE ARTS
Objective:
Your child will finish The Tale of Jolly Robin this week. They will create a pictorial representation of the story and include a written paragraph. In addition, your child will continue working with their reader and the consonant blends CR and DR.
Materials:
- Main Lesson Book
- Colored pencils and beeswax crayons (stick and/or block)
Steps:
- Finish reading The Tale of Jolly Robin at bedtime.
- Use Language Arts for the Main Morning Lesson three times this week. Enter the following into the Main Lesson Book:
Two days: paragraphs and pictures about the bedtime story One day: consonant blends and words containing them - Continue reading from a printed reader (Ben & Meg or Animal Friends ) at least three days a week.
- Review the consonant blends CR and DR. It is important for your child to clearly produce the basic speech sounds. The emphasis should be on pronunciation and enunciation so that the consonant blends and word families may be properly learned.
Introduce the words that contain these consonant blends: CR - crack, crash, crawl, create, crib, crumb, cry, etc. DR - drag, drink, draw, dress, drive, drop, dreary, etc.
Further Study:
Again, review the list of consonant blends and digraphs. Make up words using the blends you are working on this week. Try adding these blends to all the words you use in a sentence or conversation together. Listen to how adding blends changes the word completely and even makes the words indistinguishable. Have fun with these sounds!
