Reasons to Enroll in Oak Meadow School
Curriculum The Oak Meadow curriculum develops not only the intellect, but also engages the heart and hands. Activities encourage students to relate to others and to the world, and to take an active part in living and creating. While achieving goals and learning objectives is important, we are also concerned with the daily process of learning, so we avoid true-false and multiple choice testing. Choices Not only do our materials develop creative and critical thinking skills, but they offer the student a myriad of choices for approaching lessons through different learning styles - reading, writing, drawing, collage, experiments, drama, games, social activities, and much more. Teachers At the heart of learning is a supportive relationship between teacher and student. Our teachers treat students as individuals, and they know how to help draw out their innate gifts. Oak Meadow teachers are often remembered by the family and student for years as having been an integral and valuable part of the student's education. Accessibility Parents can consult teachers regarding adaptations, questions, special family projects, home schooling and other issues related to using Oak Meadow's curriculum. Teachers are available by telephone during office hours, or by email or regular mail. Flexibility We believe that every student learns in a unique way. Our teachers offer a great amount of flexibility for adapting the curriculum to the student's specific needs. They are available for consultations. We even offer IEP's for Gifted or LD students. Services We provide a full range of academic services to our enrolled families, including keeping records of evaluations, creating transcripts, transferring records to other schools, college handbook, IEP's, Middle School and High School diplomas, a yearly High School graduation ceremony, and more. Welcome Every enrolled family receives a free welcome packet of bonus materials designed to support your journey of homeschooling. These include the book Living and Learning by Lawrence Williams, Ed.D. (co-founder of Oak Meadow); the Learning Dynamics audio tapes; and the booklet Learning Styles, which helps you to identify your child's learning styles and adapt your educational approach accordingly. Experience Oak Meadow has been in existence since 1975. We started as a day school in California (yes, right beside a meadow with oak trees!) before becoming one of the first organizations serving homeschoolers - back when homeschooling was illegal in most states. When we say we know about the needs of homeschoolers, it's because we've been there. Commitment At Oak Meadow we are constantly upgrading our curriculum and materials, and we are always looking for better ways to serve the needs of homeschooling families. We are committed to creating an environment where children and families succeed with homeschooling. Because we believe that children are the leaders of tomorrow, we take the task of education seriously. Feedback We don't expect you to take our word for it.
