Ariel Van Eck attended Northern Arizona University where she received a Bachelor's of Science in English Education for both middle school and high school levels. She taught in a public school for a short time before attended The Waldorf High School Teacher Education Program in Wilton, New Hampshire. In the Waldorf education training, Ariel learned how to teach with a developmental approach that addresses the needs of the growing child and maturing adolescent. Waldorf teachers strive to transform education into an art that educates the whole person- the student's heart, will, and intellect. Ariel taught at a Waldorf high school for four years before moving to her new home in Portland, Oregon and becoming an Oak Meadow teacher. She recently graduated from massage therapy school with certifications in Swedish, Myofascial and Neuromuscular (Trigger Point) Therapies. Ariel is now working as a massage therapist in addition to teaching Oak Meadow homeschooling courses.
Other exciting opportunities that Ariel has had the privilege of being a part of include: teaching rock climbing to children at an indoor rock climbing gym, acting and co-directing various theater productions, and organizing and hosting a weekly arts and crafts evening, helping those interested to learn knitting, quilting, and beadwork.
Some of Ariel's favorite pastimes are reading, hiking, rock climbing, cooking, gardening, traveling, painting, and crafting. She also loves to collect inspiring quotes. Here is one of her favorites: "It is high time that the ideal of success should be replaced by the ideal of service." - Albert Einstein
