Biology
I graduated from California State University at San Jose with a BA in Biology and a California Teaching Credential. I taught two years in public and private schools before retiring to play with my own little ones in the incredible state of Alaska. It was there that I fell in love with Biology; inspired by the Aurora Borealis, and the moose crossing the front lawn, life was exploding all around me.
I subsequently home schooled my three children using the Oak Meadow primary and secondary curricula. All three of them are now in different colleges and I have been able to spend the last four years teaching, encouraging, and enjoying Oak Meadow Biology students.
I now live in the southernmost part of Texas’ Piney Woods and love to garden and work with horses. I am still constantly fascinated by the variety of patterns and processes that make up our world, and love to invite students to ponder the energies that are inherent in a lightening storm, a sunset, or the colors of a robin.
The Oak Meadow program uses the development of reading and writing skills as the backbone of this challenging Biology course. The experience of learning to write good research and observational papers is particularly valuable in the sciences and opens up new avenues of observation and thought. Equally important are the "hands on" activities: the laboratory, visual projects, and drawings. By incorporating a variety of mediums into the learning process, the depth and quality of understanding is heightened. I personally love the one-on-one relationship with young people. It allows me to engage students in a thoughtful attitude of exploration and develop a willingness to take the time and effort required to create quality work.
I prefer to respond to my students needs on an individual basis. I am available for one-on-one tutoring and consulting by email or telephone.
