TEACHERS: Kathy Lockwood

Algebra II; Geometry; Advanced Math; Calculus

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Irvine, in 1984. From 1985 – 1989 I worked as a tutor in the Math Lab at Bakersfield Community College. I earned my California Secondary Teaching Credential in Mathematics from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, in 1992. I worked as a substitute Math teacher in the San Luis Obispo Unified School District for a few years before joining the teaching team here at Oak Meadow in 1997. Oak Meadow provides a supportive and safe environment where students can participate in one-on-one learning-relationships. Oak Meadow’s emphasis on independent learning asks students to dig deep within, and therefore, inspires personal development and growth. I enjoy helping students in their endeavor to learn about mathematical ideas. Math has always been my favorite subject and it’s exciting to witness the evolution of learning, as skills in logic and organized-thinking are refined for some and just slowly emerging for others.

I feel privileged to be working with this wonderful group of people and in an educational setting that not only provides all the necessary tools for learning, but also has great heart and an insightful understanding of the human spirit.
