My interest in the ways words cohere and form, flowing into written expression, into meaning, and into stories continues to grow with time. There are always fresh discoveries ahead in the study of literature; to me, the process of teaching opens both students and teachers to these discoveries. The study of literature and writing in high school is an introduction to a fine literary tradition, and to the possibilities and wonders as well as the wisdom and knowledge of this tradition. The student is given practice in all the structures of composition, given the opportunity to work on his/her writing in a supportive and constructive environment, at the same time reading and responding to the different forms of written expression provided through the reading.
My education includes a B.A. in English and Education from Smith College, and graduate work in English Literature, with a thesis in poetry, at the University of Kansas, where I taught Freshman Composition and Literature. I was a Secondary School English teacher before becoming a mother. Since then I have worked in school libraries and have been a proofreader and an editor. I have been teaching Online English at Oak Meadow School for the past two years. I live in Vermont, in a small town in the Connecticut River Valley, with my three teenage sons, five cats, a small garden and many books.
