Kindergarten - Fourth Grade
I am thrilled to be a part of the Oak Meadow experience of which you and your family are also a part. I have been a state certified professional educator for 29 years, in both the public and private sectors, in the capacities of special education classroom teacher (K-12), preschool teacher, consultant to Iowa public school districts as an employee of the Iowa State Department of Education, teacher trainer, parent educator, private tutor, homeschooling parent and homeschool evaluator for Pennsylvania homeschooling families.
I always knew that I would teach or somehow be involved with children and their families. I started volunteering at summer camps for disabled youth when I was fourteen. During my second year of professional teaching I heard a very loud inner voice that said "I want to teach my own."
I am the parent of two children, a thirteen year old boy and an eight year old girl. We have been homeschooling since February, 2000. I learned of Waldorf education when my son was of preschool age. At that time I simply read and read...all I could get my hands on. Once we started homeschooling, I began training at Sunbridge College in New York during the summer months and have been involved with a Waldorf Education based study group for homeschooling parents. Additionally, I've been furthering my artistic development continually, individually and with my children. I have used both Oak Meadow and Waldorf Education throughout our homeschooling adventure.
I have a deep and sincere interest in child and human development, which is what attracted me to Waldorf Education, the Oak Meadow curriculum and homeschooling. This passion has been a driving force in my life since early adolescence. I believe that we are all in a constant state of developing and that homeschooling offers us the best opportunity for that development to occur in a healthy and whole fashion--for both the child and the parent(s).
I am delighted to share the breadth of my training and experience and my passion for children, families, learning and development with Oak Meadow families.
