Traditional and Online English 9

I am a career homemaker and mom with a lifelong enthusiasm for literature, writing and teaching. After graduating from UCLA with a degree in English, I tutored and assisted in coordinating a tutoring program at CSU Long Beach until the birth of our three children. Then I homeschooled our boys, one of whom is in college and the other entering a culinary school. Happily for me, I am still homeschooling our 11-year–old daughter. Homeschooling has benefited and blessed our family so much that I am eager to encourage others in their education at home. Custom-tailoring, flexibility, and emphasis on goals and priorities that my husband Ralph and I consider worthwhile have all been afforded us by this style of education. Most important, though, has been the opportunity for relationship with our children: Ralph reading wonderful novels to us by the fireside, family discussion of history lessons and current events, time to impart and share our ideals and values.

Teaching for Oak Meadow allows me to assist in two pursuits dear to my heart: homeschooling and mastery of the English language. With my students I strive to develop a relationship which stimulates learning, and I work hard to recognize and build on each student’s strengths as well as identifying and directing in areas for improvement. My goal is that students grow in communicating their thoughts and in saying what they want to say with clarity, precision and beauty of expression. I wish you happy homeschooling!
