Autumn 2024 theme:

Homeschooling from the Heart

Social-emotional learning (SEL) is gaining a lot of traction in schools as teachers and administrators recognize the importance of so-called “soft skills.” Communication, conflict resolution, stress management, collaboration, empathy, relationships, and many other skills fall under the category of SEL. Homeschooling has always been heart-centered because it resides at the heart of the family and the family home. But what does it actually look like?

Our next issue will focus on how you put the heart into your homeschooling. Do you work on social-emotional skills intentionally or does it happen as part of your normal family vibe? How do you help your students have a healthy social and emotional life? How is effective SEL woven into your curriculum?

This is a big topic, so feel free to think big! Leadership skills and community service are two examples. Or focus on something more specific, like simple family rules that develop an attitude of kindness and gratitude. We are all social and emotional beings—how do you help your children become their best selves?
