4th grade curriculum that sparks curiosity, creativity, and independence.

Fourth graders are ready to engage with the world more independently, and Oak Meadow’s curriculum rises to meet them. This is the first year where the main coursebook is written directly to the student, inviting them into thoughtful learning, meaningful projects, and growing ownership of their education. Math lessons remain parent-directed, offering structure and guidance through increasingly complex concepts.
Throughout the year, students explore the natural world, U.S. geography and history, and their own expressive voice. With an emphasis on classic literature, science observation, and creative expression, each subject encourages active inquiry and hands-on discovery.
Language arts lessons include poetry, journaling, grammar practice, and short story writing, while social studies explores westward expansion, Native American history, and frontier life. Students practice critical thinking and research skills as they create maps, models, and written reports.
In science, learners chart constellations, investigate animal behavior, and observe natural patterns through inquiry-based activities. Math expands into long division, fractions, and multistep problems with plenty of real-world application.
Art, music, and crafts are woven throughout the curriculum—students dive deep into perspective drawing, build models, and continue their musical journey with Recorder Duets.
