Enrollment FAQ’s
Is Oak Meadow School accredited?
Our distance learning school is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Through this accreditation, Oak Meadow School is recognized by the five other regional accrediting agencies in the US. It is common practice for major accrediting associations to share reciprocity across international lines.
While Oak Meadow cannot guarantee that an individual school or country will accept our credits, our transcripts carry the seal of our accrediting organizations and have been widely accepted by schools and universities around the world. Of course, each country is different in how they view distance learning, so you’ll want to research this on your own. There are times when a family may need to provide additional documentation or progress reports.
Oak Meadow is happy to assist you with this process in whatever way we can. Contact your educational counselor for support.
What is your class schedule?
Enrollment in Oak Meadow is not like attending an online school. Students work with the Oak Meadow curriculum materials on their own with parental oversight as needed, and they submit lessons to and communicate with their assigned Oak Meadow teacher via email, phone, and video conferencing.
There are no online classroom periods nor is there a regular schedule. Each student/family sets up their own daily/weekly schedule.
What is the role of the Oak Meadow teacher?
Oak Meadow teachers guide and support student learning. They provide explanations, feedback, encouragement, and resources. Teachers do not tutor or conduct live lessons but support learning through thoughtful assessment and communication. See detailed breakdown by grade bands:
K–4: Monthly lesson submissions. Teachers guide home teachers and provide feedback to parents and motivating comments to students.
5–8: Lessons submitted biweekly. Teachers encourage students to take increasing ownership of communication.
High School: Students work directly with teachers, submit lessons on a regular schedule, and receive detailed feedback. Teachers are available by email, phone, or Zoom as needed.
All students receive semester-end narrative evaluations. K–8 students receive certificates of completion; high schoolers receive an accredited transcript.
What is my role as a parent?
In early grades, parents serve as the home teacher and main contact with Oak Meadow. They organize the learning schedule and submit lessons.
As students grow more independent (especially in high school), parents take on more of a support role—helping with scheduling, tracking progress in the parent portal, and encouraging accountability. Families may also bring in outside tutors for additional support.
How do students and families communicate with their teacher(s)?
Communication happens via email, phone, and Zoom. Teachers respond to emails within 24–48 business hours. Each teacher has weekly office hours and is available for scheduled phone or video calls.
Do I need a tutor in addition to my Oak Meadow teacher?
Oak Meadow teachers do not offer daily or live instruction. If your student needs consistent, one-on-one support, hiring a tutor can be a helpful supplement. Determine what kind of support is needed—subject-specific, executive function, or learning difference support—and how often tutoring is required.
What are the options for enrollment?
We offer full-year (36-week) and single-semester (18-week) enrollment from Kindergarten through Grade 12, with rolling admission. In Grades K–4, students enroll in the full program. From Grade 5 onward, single-subject enrollment is an option. Extensions are available, and summer courses are offered for high schoolers. Families can begin the year in another setting and transition into Oak Meadow.
How do I submit lessons?
K–6 parents and 7–12 students receive Oak Meadow Gmail accounts for lesson submission. Oak Meadow uses Google Apps for Education.
Submission frequency:
K–4: Once per month
Grades 5–8: Every two weeks
High School: As determined by each teacher
Teachers provide details and expectations at the start of each course.
Do I need internet access?
Yes, for submitting lessons, communicating with teachers, and accessing some digital platforms. While the curriculum is print-based, enrolled students benefit from the use of technology to support connection and learning. Families in areas with limited access may need to problem-solve for periodic online access.
How do you evaluate student work?
Teachers provide feedback for every lesson and assign grades or pass/fail designations, depending on the grade level. Semester and year-end narrative evaluations are issued for all students.
K–4: Pass/fail
Grades 5–8: Letter grades or optional pass/fail
High School: Letter grades (viewed at course completion)
What documentation will I receive after enrolling?
You’ll receive a Provisional Certificate of Enrollment upon enrolling, followed by an Official Certificate of Enrollment within 90 days (pending required documents and submission of student work). K–8 students receive Certificates of Completion; high school students receive an accredited transcript and diploma.
How does Oak Meadow support students with learning challenges?
Oak Meadow offers Learning Plans for students with IEPs, 504 Plans, or diagnosed learning differences. These plans outline accommodations and are developed after reviewing documentation. Depending on need, we may recommend supplementing with a tutor or suggest using our curriculum independently for greater flexibility.
Can students interact with each other?
Yes! We offer student forums, art blogs, book clubs, pen pal programs, virtual workshops, and a newsletter for enrolled families. Middle and high school students can connect via moderated Google forums.
Do colleges accept an Oak Meadow diploma?
Yes. Oak Meadow graduates have been accepted to a wide range of colleges and universities. Our accredited diploma and transcript are widely accepted. College counseling is included in high school tuition to support students through the application process.
