Second grade curriculum that builds confidence through creativity, connection, and curiosity.

Second graders step more confidently into the world of ideas and expression. At this stage, Oak Meadow’s curriculum supports growing independence through a rich blend of animal studies, storytelling, hands-on projects, and joyful skill-building across the subjects.
Each week offers a rhythm of meaningful lessons in language arts, math, science, and social studies. Reading and writing are naturally integrated—students write about animals they study, create poems from their observations, and work with word families, consonant blends, sight words, and vowel combinations.
Math lessons explore the four processes through stories, number patterns, borrowing, place value, and mental math, with plenty of practice in vertical and horizontal equations. In science, students research and classify animals, observe behavior and communication, and investigate the food chain and the interdependence of living things.
Social studies brings history, geography, civics, and economics to life through fables, folktales, and the study of Ancient China, Mali, and the Celts. Projects invite students to reflect on kindness, leadership, and traditions from around the world.
Arts, crafts, music, and health round out the year with watercolor painting, crocheting, recorder playing, and engaging conversations about wellness and community.
